slip slide away

slipping away into the shade

beneath bent boughs she is hidden;

hidden from the herons piercing gaze and stabbing beak

beneath bending branches just barely caressing

the water,

sending out no ripples at all.

she is burrowed below in murky mud,

mud so murky it covers her completely

where hidden from the heron

she forgets,

forgets about shade, beak, and bough

sending out no ripples,

no ripples at all she slips away completely

covered beneath bent boughs forgotten

by all.

then,

snap! devoured,

she is by darkness consumed,

swallowed whole by jaws hidden,

hidden and waiting below,

burrowed in mud so murky

they were forgotten,

completely forgotten by all.
